56 Year Old Woman FINALLY Loses Weight: A Weightloss Story

samuandmelfitness

Kris is 56 years old. She has been overweight for 28 years, and has always struggled with weightloss. Kris has tried everything in the book. Weight watchers, Jenny Craig, gyms, walks. But nothing managed to help her lose weight and keep it off. Until she found us! Here’s Kris's Pride journey so far.

When Kris first started at The Pride, she thought she would be the weakest, most unfit member in the entire gym.

Little did she know, The Pride is filled with beginners. In fact, 80% of our members think the exact same thing. Most of our members haven’t worked out in years (if ever) when they first start with us.

The Beginning: Always Start Slow.

When Kris first started at The Pride, she thought she would be the weakest, most unfit member in the entire gym.

Little did she know, The Pride is filled with beginners. In fact, 80% of our members think the exact same thing. Most of our members haven’t worked out in years (if ever) when they first start with us.

For Kris's first few weeks, we took things very light. We do this with all our members. We want to slowly build strength, technique and confidence before progressing to heavier weights. Step by step, we slowly progressed Kris's workouts over time. lifting a little bit heavier each session. A few more reps. Making each exercise a little bit harder.

In the background, Mel and Kris came up with a plan of attack around nutrition. For Kris, the main focus was becoming more mindful around what she was putting in her mouth. Almost all of Kris's nutrition strategies were built around this idea of ‘mindful eating’.

This week, we re-measured Kris.

The Remeasure: Finally... Weightloss!

Kris has lost over 6kgs. She’s lost over 6cm around her waist. She is bench pressing more than double the weight that she started with. When Kris first started, she had to squat to a high box. Now she can squat to full depth, while holding weights.

During this period, there was the Christmas break, where she gained a bit of weight back. And she tweaked her shoulder. But she didn’t let this stop her.

When most people gain weight over the break, they feel sorry for themselves. They end up starting from scratch 6 months later. But not Kris. Instead, she jumped back into the gym and kickstarted her mindful eating strategies.

In the past, a shoulder injury would have her down in the dumps. She would quit the gym until it had recovered. But this time she kept turning up, and we altered the workouts as needed.

The best part - Kris is loving The Pride. She said that she couldn’t see herself ever going to a normal gym again. And she isn’t finding the nutrition extremely restrictive or difficult.

You Can Do It Too.

If you’re still reading this, thinking you’re ‘too unfit’, ‘too overweight’, or ‘too anything’ to start, you’re wrong.

All of our journeys may be completely different. The program we follow and food we eat may even be different. But all of our journeys start the exact same way. With that first step.

So why not start now? Time will pass either way.
